About This Site
best-bank-account-cyprus.com is an independent comparison website. We are not a bank, not a financial adviser, and not affiliated with any of the banks we review.
Why We Built This
Moving to Cyprus as an English speaker and trying to figure out banking is genuinely confusing. The information scattered across expat forums is outdated, contradictory, and doesn't give you a clear answer. We built this site to give people one honest, structured source — with real scores, real explanations of the 2013 crisis, and honest affiliate disclosures.
How We Research
We review each bank's official fee schedules, app store ratings, account opening requirements, and terms and conditions. We cross-reference this with the accumulated experience of the English-speaking expat community in Cyprus — across forums, Facebook groups, and direct reports. No score is based on speculation; every data point is sourced and dated.
How We Score and Rank
Our weighted scoring model uses six categories:
- Account Opening Ease (25%) — remote opening capability, speed, document burden, non-resident acceptance
- Fees & Cost (20%) — monthly fee, SEPA transfer cost, ATM fees, international transfer markup
- Digital Banking Quality (20%) — iOS and Android app ratings, English interface, online functionality
- Non-Resident & Foreigner Friendliness (15%) — explicit acceptance of non-residents, English support, foreign address acceptance
- Branch & ATM Network (10%) — number of Cyprus branches, island-wide ATM coverage
- Trust & Stability (10%) — EU regulation, deposit protection (DGS), years in operation, crisis history
Affiliate Relationships
We have affiliate relationships with Revolut and Wise. If you open an account through our links, we may earn a small commission — at no cost to you. We do not have any commercial relationship with the local Cypriot banks we review (Bank of Cyprus, Hellenic Bank, Eurobank Cyprus, Alpha Bank Cyprus, AstroBank, Ancoria Bank). Their scores and reviews are entirely independent.
Affiliate income never affects rankings. Revolut is our #1 pick because it genuinely is the best first account for most newcomers — not because we earn more from it.
