Quick Facts
Eurobank Cyprus was formed in September 2025 through the merger of Hellenic Bank and the former Eurobank Cyprus subsidiary. The combined entity is now Cyprus's second largest bank, with a large branch network and the full backing of Eurobank Ergasias — one of Greece's four systemic banks.
Overview
Eurobank Cyprus is the product of the September 2025 merger between Hellenic Bank — long the preferred local bank of English-speaking expats — and the former Eurobank Cyprus subsidiary. The combined entity is Cyprus's second largest bank and carries the full backing of Eurobank Ergasias, one of Greece's four systemic banks. It inherits Hellenic Bank's strong reputation with the international community.
Account Opening Experience
Branch visit required. The bank retains the Hellenic Bank branch network that expats were previously familiar with, along with staff experienced in dealing with non-residents and foreigners. English-speaking officers are available across the network. Expect 1–2 weeks from appointment to account activation.
Fees & Costs
Monthly fees start from €1.50 for a basic account — among the most competitive for a traditional Cypriot bank with a large branch network. Standard SEPA transfers are generally included. International transfer fees apply outside the SEPA zone.
Digital Banking
The digital platform has been rebranded as Eurobank Cyprus post-merger, retaining much of the Hellenic Bank functionality. App ratings of 4.3 on iOS and 4.1 on Android — solid for a traditional local bank, and improving. Online banking is fully in English.
Non-Resident & Foreigner Experience
The merged bank inherits Hellenic Bank's strong reputation for dealing with English-speaking expats and non-residents. Staff at most branches speak English and are experienced with the international community in Limassol, Paphos, and Larnaca. Non-residents are accepted with standard documentation.
Our Verdict
Eurobank Cyprus is our top recommendation among traditional local banks for English-speaking expats. It combines Hellenic Bank's expat-friendly service culture with a strengthened balance sheet and wider backing. If you need a local Cypriot bank account, this is where we'd start.
